BRINGING HOME THE GOLD Introduction The Twenty-Two lessons in Bringing Home the Gold are divided into the five theme areas: the economic way of thinking, earning an income, saving, spending and borrowing, and managing money. Most of the lessons are estimated to take one class period with some lessons intended to take up to two class periods. The lessons in each theme have been written to be used sequentially, yet each can be used alone. The student workbook includes reading materials relating to the content of each lesson and student activities, while an accompanying Parents Guide includes background information, activities, and additional resources to encourage reinforcement in the home. This entry in the series has been developed with the understanding that high school students enjoy learning about personal finance because it involves making decisions about their own lives. Generally, high school students have an excellent readiness to develop financial literacy because they are looking forward to living on their own in the near future. They want to know some strategies to use to make their income go as far as it can. As an interdisciplinary subject, these personal finance lessons allow teachers to introduce language arts, computation, economics, finance, reasoning, and decision-making skills with the implementation of a single program. |
